I want to thank you so much for handling my son['s] case. I must say I was highly impressed (and I'm not easily impressed). During my fifteen year stint in the area of EEO/Civil Rights, I dealt with a lot of different attorneys from all walks of life. Sadly, as a result, attorneys in general do not impress me much . . . And yet, despite all my negative experiences, I've found that there are truly some attorneys who conduct themselves ethically and professionally. They argue the facts and law, and are so competent that they know they don't need to do any more than that. And these have always been the kind of attorneys who have really impressed me . . . What a relief it was to find you were exactly the kind of attorney that I have always admired and respected. And then, you have additional qualities that are probably lacking in most attorneys. I have never met an attorney who was as emotionally present as you were when dealing with my son and me. It seemed as if you really cared about us and what we were facing. I have to say, that's a lot more than I would expect from any attorney. To be honest with you, it wasn't something I needed, having a certain comfort level with the legal process, but you did it so thoroughly and so patiently, and were so reassuring throughout the whole process. It was definitely a very nice unexpected bonus. I am sure that clients who do not have the comfort level that I do [with] legal systems would be reassured and comforted by the extra time and care that you take to explain things and put them at ease. I know that my son was reassured and comforted . . . You and I both know from our experiences with the areas of law in which we have worked, and just through general life experiences, the kinds of double standards that our legal systems impose on black men. As a wife and mother of three sons, I am always very concerned about it. Therefore, I don't think you can begin to imagine how grateful I am that my son was blessed to have such a positive experience with the legal system with you representing him as his attorney. You are absolutely right when you say that you are very good at what you do. You are absolutely right to charge the fees that you do, because certainly you are worth every penny.
